Owning a bridal store is not anything I envisioned when I was younger. It took my daughter being asked to multiple proms for the idea to even come to me. There was nothing close by so I decided our family business was going to be a bridal and tuxedo store.
Did I know the excitement it would bring, and the genuine connection I would make with the kind and talented individuals I would hire throughout the years? I had no idea. And it never occurred to me that anyone on my team would be a bridal stylist while engaged herself. Now it almost seems like a pre requisite.
One of the most magical moments of working in a bridal salon is when the bride says yes to her perfect wedding dress. It is a core memory she will never forget.
When your bridal stylist is also engaged and planning her own wedding, it is that much more relatable. Brides feel like they have a friend who understands not only the excitement, but the anxiety as well.
What Is It Like To Be Engaged and Surrounded By Wedding Dresses?
“It’s like Christmas,” is what our very own Daria said about being a bridal stylist while engaged. “I was able to pick out dresses to bring into the store with myself, a bride-to-be, in mind. I knew I made the right choice after I went to Chicago bridal market and saw all the new styles. There was no second-guessing, I still loved MY dress the most.”
Note: Daria has obviously been with us since the store opened and I had lost count of the number of dresses she tried on and claimed to be “the one”. Before she had a ring. Before she even had a boyfriend. Coincidentally (or not, I do not believe in coincidences), I sent her a picture of a dress that I thought was gorgeous. She replied with, “I was looking at that one, too!” She brought it in, tried it on with me, and got tears for the first and only time. We both knew that was it.

Daria and Sarah got engaged within a month of each other. The in-store energy and outside bride hype for them was over the top!

For Sarah, she was worried that being around so many dresses would make it impossible to choose. “I thought I would never be able to decide on one, but the saying is true. When you find your dress, you get this feeling and you don’t ever want to change your mind.”
She also loves the unique sharing experience she gets with her brides. “We chat and connect so much while in the dressing room. The dress search and planning is fresh for me. I know what brides are thinking and that helps them so much.”
And now it is that time for the newest member of our dream team, Kylie! Her wedding is two years away, but seeing brides every day and talking about wedding planning keeps the excitement going. She decided to write about her experience and the meaningful moments she finds in her unique position.
If you’re engaged, you may find the perfect place to work is a bridal store!
Kylie’s Experience As A Bridal Stylist While Engaged
Every day, I walk into work and am greeted by hundreds of beautiful wedding dresses. We begin our day preparing the store for our incredible customers, and I start by pulling dresses for our first bridal appointment. I see the bride’s Pinterest board and envision her at her chosen venue. The excitement begins to build immediately.

When the bride walks in, there’s already a smile on my face because I know I’m about to help create an unforgettable experience. As we look through dresses together and find the perfect ones to try on, I get to hear all about her wedding plans. With each conversation, I find myself relating more and more to our brides.
Planning a wedding is such a beautiful experience, but it can also be incredibly stressful. I know firsthand how meaningful it is to have someone simply listen. Being able to offer our brides a safe space to pause, breathe, and truly enjoy the process is something I value so much.
As a bride gets closer to making her decision, I’m often covered in goosebumps and filled with joy, knowing how lucky I am to be part of such a special moment.
You might be wondering: how do you choose your own dress when you’re surrounded by beautiful gowns every day?
Honestly, it was easier than I expected.
One day at Darianna® Bridal & Tuxedo, I tried on three dresses with my mom, future mother-in-law, and sister there to watch the magic unfold. The moment I put the one on, I knew. There was no doubt in my mind.
At the time, I was still more than two years away from my wedding, but I was ready to say yes. Even though I’m surrounded by gorgeous dresses every day, that feeling has never changed. I’ve tried on countless other gowns to better understand what our brides experience and how each style feels, but I always come back to my dress.
That feeling is truly unlike any other, when you know, you know.
Going through this process as a bridal stylist while engaged has given me a deeper understanding of what our brides are experiencing. It has allowed me to support them in a way I couldn’t before.
So, what is it truly like to work at a bridal shop while engaged?
It’s magical.
