It’s always exciting to present the new arrivals being added to our collection of elegant mother of the bride dresses.

We know that finding the perfect dress for your child’s wedding day can be overwhelming. Many mothers spend months looking at pictures of dresses online, and dreading the actual task of going somewhere to try on. This is where we excel.

The dresses we bring in for mothers of the bride and groom are modern styles, classic, youthful, and appropriate. They have inclusive sizing, good structure, and will work with all body types. Let’s look at the How To’s of narrowing down your options and then see some new beauties!

The Season/Location

The first thing to consider is the season.

The temperature will affect the dress you choose. A summer wedding or a beach wedding dress will be in soft pastels and lighter fabrics. An autumn or winter affair will be in jewel or deeper colors and appropriate for cooler weather.

Venue/Aesthetic

Next is the venue or dress code. A black tie, Old Money, or Gatsby event aesthetic will require floor length gowns. Metallic dresses are always a good choice for these themes, as are classic black dresses.  A formal evening event may still require a floor length dress, but in different colors appropriate for the season.

Classic colors such as sapphire, wine, and deep purple dresses are lovely in the autumn and winter; colors like dusty rose, light pinks and pale blue dresses in the spring and summer. If the affair is informal or casual, tea-length mother of the bride dresses are appropriate.

Personal Style

Now that you have your guideline on the type of dress you need and the different color options, we can get into your personal style. What is the right dress for you?

  • Do you like a short sleeve or long sleeve?
  • Do you prefer V-neck or off the shoulder necklines?
  • Do you feel great in a fitted gown showing off your curves or are A-line silhouettes more your style?
  • Do you want to go with modern designs or stick to gowns with a timeless look?

If you aren’t actually sure of your personal style, look at the pictures of dresses you have saved. There will be a common theme in them.on theme in them.

Mother of the Bride & Groom Dresses FAQs

Q: Can I wear white?

A. Never wear white. White is for the bride only and this is a strict rule. Do not get a white dress with flowers or lace appliques simply because it ‘doesn’t look like a wedding dress’. This color is off-limits to everyone but the bride, to every event (shower, bach party, rehearsal dinner, and wedding).

Q: Can I wear the same color as the bridesmaids?

A: Do not wear the same color as the bridesmaid dresses. As the mother of the bride or groom, you should wear a dress in a complementary color of the wedding palette.

Q: Who chooses first, mother of the bride or groom?

A:  The mother of the bride chooses her dress first. While some will say this doesn’t matter, general rules of etiquette says it does because traditionally the brides parents are paying for the wedding. Open lines of communication are needed here.

Q: Can the mothers wear the same color?

A: Yes. Dresses even in the same color can look completely different based on fabric and style.

Q: The wedding is a casual type of wedding, should I wear a cocktail dress?

A: For an afternoon brunch wedding theme or semi-formal weddings, a tea length or cocktail dress is appropriate. Add your own accessories like wrist gloves and a hat to elevate the look.

Q: The wedding dress code is black tie. What does this mean?

A: Black tie dress code requires women to be in floor-length, elegant gowns and the men to wear tuxedos.
