The Best Alternatives to a Traditional Wedding Veil

Listen to this blog as a podcast:

There are many alternatives to a traditional wedding veil

Brides today have many options when it comes to accessories, and the most common accessory by far is the wedding veil. Steeped in tradition, a classic veil is considered a must-have for your wedding day look. However, brides may want alternative options to this traditional look.

You are not alone if you are on the fence, or just flat-out don’t want to wear a bridal veil to “complete” your wedding style. The only way to go wrong on your big day look is to wear to something that isn’t right for your personal style.

Alternatives To A Traditional Wedding Veil: Bridal Headpieces Tiaras, Headbands, & Crowns

Accessories like tiaras and bridal headbands are the perfect options to replace the traditional veil. One reason is that while the veil is removed after the ceremony, bridal head pieces will stay pinned in your hair all evening.

Complete with sparkles, pearls, flowers, thick or thin, flat or raised, there are hundreds of options that work with short or long hair, and most any bridal hairstyle. Some can be pinned into your hair on the top of your head or you can find that perfect headpiece that ties in the back under your hair, leaving pretty ribbons or bridal hair vines flowing down the back.

For those with the Princess bridal style, choose a dazzling tiara with rhinestones for the perfect bridal accessory. Add matching statement bridal earrings and necklace to complete the look.

For bohemian brides with an outdoor ceremony, bridal flower crowns are a gorgeous, earthy option that lends softness and romance. You can add ribbons to floral crowns as well to take it up a notch.

A floral crown worn in a hair style of loose waves or braid is the perfect way for boho brides to nail the natural, country aesthetic.

Alternatives To A Traditional Wedding Veil: Bridal Hair Pins, Fascinators, Birdcages, & Combs

If your hair is short or you have a pulled back style, consider shimmery barrettes with pearls, gems, or flowers. Combs with lace and beaded details make for a romantic and classic updo in longer hair.

For the glamorous, old Hollywood era bride, a fascinator hat with or without a birdcage veil is the best way to pull off the perfect look. Old money and sophisticated, these are fantastic for fashion-forward brides. Pair with short satin gloves.

Casual affair? This is the perfect opportunity to wear a short white dress with a fascinator or a wide-brim hat. A bridal hat is a statement piece and a chic way to add your own personal style. Add a ribbon with pearls or white feathers, a hat is a stylish alternative to a veil.

Perhaps you’re not into anything at all in your hair. Consider:

  • capes
  • toppers
  • detachable sleeves
  • over skirts
  • large bows
  • satin gloves
  • silk scarf
  • statement earring, bracelet, and necklace set

All of these are stylish alternatives and an easy way to next-level your beautiful look. Combining any of these with your wedding attire and flowers will give you exactly what you want on your special day.

Try Them On With Your Dress

It is important to try on all these different pieces with your dress and see what feels and looks right. Whether you look at bridal veils or not, you must put your look together in advance. This includes your hair and makeup trial, dress, shoes, jewelry, and all other accessories.

Will I Feel Like A Bride Without A Veil?

Of course you will!  Your bridal look will be exactly what you want. On your day in whatever you choose to wear, whether a wedding dress or bridal suit, you will be marrying your best friend. You are putting your own personal touch and traditional twist on your wedding look!

Do not choose a veil (or any piece!) because you feel you have to, because everyone else does it, or because wedding tradition says so. There are many amazing veil alternatives. Make the right choice for you. Darianna® Bridal & Tuxedo has many of these bridal accessories to try! Have a question? Let us know here.
