What’s IN For Gowns 2024: Top Wedding Dress Trends

We are half way through 2024 already! In this time, we have welcomed many new brides into the family and have identified some notable trends among them.

Whether you are one of the modern brides looking for clean lines with a contemporary twist or a traditional bride wanting to see classic silhouettes with a timeless elegance, this is a great time to be engaged.

Our bridal designers make dresses in many different ways with luxurious fabrics and accessory options to suit your personal style. From statement sleeves and mini dresses to ball gowns in bold colors, your perfect dress is out there!

See how your wedding dress choices match up with other couples in your position.

Clean-Girl Aesthetic

The bridal industry as a whole has been hearing a TON of requests for dresses that fit the “clean girl aesthetic”. This is basically dresses with little to no lace embellishment. While we have seen an increase in the number of brides who are coming in specifically looking for more simple dresses (with photos of plain crepe, column dresses with a scoop or square neckline) slightly less than half of the 2024 Darianna® brides are actually purchasing these dresses.

There is a pretty even balance of our brides who are actually saying “yes!” to simple dresses compared to brides buying lacy wedding gowns. If you are a bride looking for a clean gown that has a little lace modern twist, it sounds like these dresses may be making a comeback.

Lighter On The Beading

One notable bridal trend we are seeing among our brides is that beading and sparkles are not as popular as they once were.

About 30% of our brides are opting to purchase gowns with no glitter or beading while almost half of our brides are opting for gowns that have a little bit of bling. Of our brides who are choosing dresses with a little sparkle, virtually all of these gowns also have a lace component to them. We see many brides in the store drawn to delicate lace dresses because the clear sequins shine and draw the eye to the intricate lace patterns.

Within recent years, dresses with different colored underlays have increased in popularity. Designers are offering many colors other than ivory and white now, such as mocha, champagne, blush, and black! Bridal gowns with a colored underlay will beautifully highlight the intricate patterns of the ivory or white lace applique.

Add Some Color

There are also ivory gowns with colorful floral accents like red and berry colors with deep green, or soft pastels. This can be colored floral embellishments like petals or full applique pieces, or colored embroidery patterns.

Plenty of Darianna® brides fall head over heels for the “non-traditional” colorful wedding dresses that they see in the store, but about 62% of our brides this year are sticking with traditional ivory. No bride of ours has purchased a pure white gown so far!

Carry-Over Trends

Some of the latest trends for 2024 look like they may carryover for some time. These include:

  • floral appliques and 3D lace embellishments
  • detachable sleeves including bishop and puff
  • oversized bows
  • high slits
  • bold accessories
  • basque and drop-waist silhouettes

Chicago Bridal Market and New York Bridal Fashion Week are coming up in September. We will see the new trends heading into the world of bridal fashion! Our team attends Chicago market to see the latest collections with the new wedding dress styles in person. We have to so we can curate the perfect collection of dresses. It is not possible to do that from looking at photographs.

Speaking of curating dresses… we have been changing our designer line up around for the last few years to find the perfect combination to offer our brides. We have officially nailed it!

While our top designer changes monthly, our crowd favorites are Morilee, Madi Lane, Essense of Australia, Stella York, Sophia Tolli, and Kitty Chen

We hand pick each dress from our designers to offer a wide range of styles, silhouettes, and trends in our dress gallery. With this line up, it is HARD to choose just a sampling from each.

Our brides all have their own unique style. Some are looking for classic wedding dresses while others want a dramatic look. Two brides may try on the same dress, one falls in love and the other says this is not for me. Therefore, it is imperative for our brides and our stylists that we have as many wedding looks as possible to offer.

Lately we have seen our brides loving the simple styles from Stella York and Essense of Australia, botanical styles from Madi Lane, ballgowns from Sophia Tolli, the accessories to match with dresses from Morilee, and the intricately beaded beauties from Kitty Chen!
