Phillip Gabriel Photography was started by Philip and Gabriel Fredericks, a father and son team. Thirteen years ago, Gabe took over the business and has been clicking ever since!
We are in the bridal attire business and while brides are trying on gowns, the photos always come up. How the maid colors will look in the photos, how the flowers will contrast in the photos, how her gown will glitter and sparkle in the photos … so my interest was really piqued by this statement he made:
“We believe it’s important to give direction, but want them to have fun and let us capture the natural moments. We prefer that to the staged posing. Most couples aren’t models and don’t get photographed professionally every day, so we don’t expect them to be professionals. We just like to have a good time and we love to photograph our clients with all that emotion and having a good time.”
Capture the natural moments. These aren’t selfies, they are lasting impressions for the frames and walls of your home, for your thank you or holiday cards, memories that you will look at for years to come.
Your wedding day should be fun and enjoyable while your photographer finds all those candid moments as well as a few “model” posed shots.
One of our favorites is the First Look. That instant the groom sees his bride for the first time, or when Dad sees his little girl, ahh priceless. You can’t pose that. You need the right photographer who gets it and is ready for it.
First look can be before the ceremony for the bride and groom to have a few moments together alone – and Gabe said that really depends on the timing of everything. If there is time, consider it. If things are on a tighter schedule, don’t because you definitely don’t need additional anxiety!
Gabe says that the trend now is more of a “photojournalistic style”. “We got away from the proposed picture of the past and into the natural moments. There are so many unique things you can do with digital photography, and I think what’s trending is the different styles and what you can do differently with those same poses and situations.”
Gabe recommends booking about 12 months in advance, or when the date is chosen. With his company, they will go over a timeline of your wedding day and any shots or elements that are specifically important, and by going over everything in advance the couple is free to enjoy the day and Gabe knows exactly what to get.
Typically 8-10 weeks later, the photos are ready. They are edited and color corrected in house (not outsourced like many photographers) which is very important to maintain quality control. Average number of photos taken: approx 1,200! That’s a lot of pictures to look through. But after all, your wedding day flew by in a blur, so why not spend a leisurely afternoon reliving every minute of your magical wedding day!
