Why a Fourth Of July Engagement?
How popular is a Fourth of July Engagement? It turns out, quite popular!
Fourth of July is not like other times of the year such as Valentine’s Day (the most romantic day of the year!), nor does it fall within what is considered ‘engagement season’ (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, etc.). However, we can assure you this is a big day for a cherished moment of a marriage proposal. Under the fireworks is the perfect setting to create your own fireworks!
Over the years, Independence Day is always in the top 10 days of the year to be proposed to and receive an engagement ring. It certainly makes sense. Built in picnics, live music, parades, fireworks or a spectacular drone show which is certainly a great way to help you celebrate this memorable moment.
In the New York and Philadelphia areas, the warm weather is a great time for outdoor proposals. We are often with close friends or at family gatherings for this American holiday. It will be a core memory and a a beautiful chapter in your love story. In the United States, July 4th has special meaning and often brings together closest friends and family members for a backyard barbecue or summer vacation, maybe at the Jersey shore!
This provides the perfect time for brides and grooms-to-be to be surrounded by those most special people as they celebrate this exciting event!
Based on the uptick of bridal appointments around the 4th of July, many brides are home for the holiday. This is the perfect opportunity for the couple to book their wedding venue and for the bride shop for her bridal gown with mom, sister, grandmom, and friends.
Popular Times Of The Year For A Wedding Proposal
Over the years, WeddingWire has reported that almost 40% of engagements occur between the holiday season and holidays – Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, and Valentines’ Day. Historically, the most popular months to get engaged are between November and February.
That’s a pretty large percentage and Darianna® Bridal & Tuxedo can attest to that because bridal appointments are in full swing during that period. We even experience a waiting list for brides-to-be to be able to shop for wedding dresses with us during that time of year.
So where does a Fourth of July engagement fall in terms of popularity of the day to propose? A quick search of the wedding industry shows three different things:
- July 4th is always in the top 10 of days to get engaged;
- Some websites place the popularity of the day higher than others; and
- Each year the order and importance of the day to get engaged changes
*The data collected online is based on surveys of those who got engaged.
The last survey we found from WeddingWire showed that Independence Day was the 5th most popular day to get engaged out of a total of the 10 most popular days. Two other surveys we found placed the 4th of July at #2 and #10.

A Fourth of July engagement competes only with the holiday season and Valentine’s Day! Fireworks and family celebrations provide perfect conditions to pop the question on the 4th!
Fourth of July Engagement: The Ring
We understand why this special day is one of the best times to propose, and it is your turn to be the center of attention! Now, what will you propose with?
The traditional way for that ultimate romantic proposal is to present an engagement ring.
There are so many options of different rings with which to propose marriage. Many will offer a traditional diamond engagement ring. Whether a natural diamond or a lab-created diamond, a diamond ring is the most traditional. The proposal should focus on you as a couple, and therefore, maybe the diamond does not represent you or your values.

Perhaps you have an heirloom piece handed down through a family member. The beauty of unique engagement rings such as this symbolizes true love lasting many, many decades. Other creative ideas are custom designs, antique pieces, a birthstone or other gemstone ring that is meaningful in your love story. Whatever it is, this piece of jewelry symbolizes your commitment to forever, starting right then!
Some preset engagement rings will have the perfect stone, others may have the setting waiting on your preferred stone. As with most items, you can order an engagement ring online. However, if you are considering doing something custom, we highly recommend visiting jewelry experts in person.
