Modern mothers demand fashion that reflects their personal taste. Gone are the days where the only options you could find for mothers of the bride and groom dresses were frumpy and old looking in unflattering colors. Over the recent years, dress designers have really stepped it up for mothers.
The trends change quickly in the wedding world, and it is important for mothers of the bride and groom to know what the latest is for them, too! If you are dress shopping for this special occasion, you will see some very exciting looks this season.
2025 Trends For Mother of the Bride & Groom
Seasonal 2025 trends for mother of the bride and mother of the groom dresses have us looking at large floral prints and bolder color choices! Still in the classic silhouettes of column, fit & flare, and A-line, the dress details include one-shoulder and portrait necklines, ruffles, embellishments, and prints.
Note: The floor-length gown is still the most requested, however there are also trending options for the tea-length dress and the knee-length cocktail dress.
This new trending look is a departure from traditional safety colors like navy blue and champagne. Mothers will get to choose from rich jewel tones like cobalt blue, fuchsia and royal purple. If choosing a bolder color for your gown or print for the wedding day, you may wish to tone down the accessories and let the gown be the center of attention.

These trending colors and patterns work well with black tie weddings or a formal dress code.
Prints and Metallics Are In
The metallics are in and we are seeing more silver and gold mother of the bride dresses, a nice twist on traditional beige and grey. Gold and silver threading is being woven and embroidered into the patterns for a real pop.
Larger floral embroidery, prints, and bold patterns will be featured prominently in 2025. Prints featuring leaves and floral accents will be seen quite frequently at weddings this year. Again, mothers will be making a statement of their own personal style with these gown choices and should tone down accessories.
Muted and pastel colors such as blush, periwinkle and sage will still be popular, especially in the Spring for those wanting a more traditional look. One should always consider skin tone when choosing a lighter color palette. Some colors such as blush and dusty rose have a tendency to wash out a person in photos. Commit to those pastel tones after making sure they compliment you.
Trends in Fabrics
So far this year in our store, the most chosen colors have been navy, slate, sage, and wine. While these classic colors are still popular picks, the focus in 2025 will be not only be in bolder colors, but also on elegant and textured fabrics such as mikado, dupioni silk and satins. Use of these more luxurious fabrics will be seen on gowns with less embellishment as the focus is on cut and fabric on the gown. Chiffon and organza are always still appropriate and desired for the Spring and Summer months for their lightweight properties.
Advice: Make sure to keep the wedding dress (style/formality/details), color scheme, and the color of the bridesmaid dresses and bridal party in mind when choosing your gown. As a general rule, dress etiquette dictates that the mother of the bride chooses her dress first. If you are the groom’s mother, you then may have one additional color and style to keep in mind. You must be aware of these wedding colors and stay in different shades of that color family.
Visit A Bridal Store
Ask the stylists at bridal shops you visit for help with a complementary color. Not only that, they will offer different styles to flatter your body shape, different colors to complement your skin tone, and will help you select perfect dress to match the formality of the wedding. We strongly advise to enlist the help of a fashion expert, and not simply order a cheap dress online for your child’s wedding. Mothers have an important role in weddings and need an elegant look all their own.
