Part 1: The Engagement

Kathleen & Kenan
Kathleen with her fiancee Kenan…ENGAGED!

We are so happy to feature our very own Kathleen Smith as she travels the road of a bride-to-be! This is such a great perspective – she is an engaged bridal and formalwear consultant for our Bucks County bridal store, so she is living and working the whole bridal experience for another 11 months.

Her first installment features the emotions surrounding the best day of her life (so far) – her engagement. Read on for a whole bunch of “Awwww” moments!

Best Day of My Life; the Day I Got Engaged

I am a bridal and formalwear consultant at Darianna Bridal & Tuxedo, a Bucks County bridal store, and helping brides and grooms find the perfect outfit for their big day is truly a privilege. I get to hear their stories and talk about their wedding plans. It’s so much fun and now I’d love to share my story as a bride-to-be.

As I think about the day I got engaged I can’t help but feel giddy; at no other time in my life have I felt more excitement.

At their cabin on the lake in Wisconson.

My fiance and I have been together for almost three years, and best friends even longer. We both knew we were getting married, but I had no idea when it would happen (nor did I want to know).

We were both able to go with my family on a vacation in August to a family cabin-on-the-lake in Wisconsin. He knows how much I love that place and as the vacation drew closer a couple of my coworkers kept asking me if I thought it would happen. NO! I kept saying, it was definitely not happening that soon.

I won’t lie and say I never daydreamed about getting engaged. How could I not?! However, up to that point I had done a great job of keeping serious thoughts of proposal out of my head, knowing it would happen eventually when it was right. We flew out together and I was just happy for a week of relaxing fun with him and my family.

Kathleen’s happy place became even happier in August!

Two days in we were all basking in perfectly sunny warm weather on the lake, and the two of us decided to go on a walk he suggested. Along our way we hit a stretch of shade from the trees so he wanted to backtrack. Turning around we stopped where we could still see the sun dancing off the water like a million diamonds, and for no real reason, I got nervous.

It’s completely normal to turn around! I knew this to be true but it didn’t shake the feeling. Stop being crazy I thought, and then he put his arms over my shoulders. I pitifully attempted to tell myself I did not feel any slight shaking. My heart was racing. We’re now at the point where he said so many sweet things to me while I stood there trying to figure out how I got so lucky.

Her beautiful ring shining through the trees.

There was use of my full name…

Down on one knee…

A promise to love me forever…

and suddenly we were engaged!!

The setting, the timing, his words: nothing could have been more perfect. It was a moment I will never forget, one I’ll keep sharing forever.

A proposal of marriage is such an incredibly special thing, so thank you for reading mine, and to any brides I hope I get to hear yours!

We are very fortunate to have Kathleen’s perspective as it will help us continue to serve our brides in the ways they need. You will definitely want to check back for her next blog where she says YES to her dress!
