Ike Behar Dawson
Ivory Tuxedo Jacket with Black Shawl Lapel

This Ike Behar tuxedo is called Dawson and exudes class and tradition.  The ivory fabric and color is quite elegant and the trim fit jacket has a contrasting black shawl satin lapel.  The single front button also has black satin.  The double besom pockets are handsomely lined with the same black satin found on the shawl lapel and button.

Shown here, the tuxedo jacket is being worn with black tuxedo pants, a white microfiber tuxedo shirt and a black satin bow tie.  All timeless and classy for this tuxedo.  You will also see black and silver studs or button covers on the shirt.  Given the richness of the ivory color of this jacket, we often recommend black and gold button covers and cuff links.  We think the gold on the jewelry compliments the beautiful ivory color.

Black Pants or Ivory Pants?

On rare occasions, we are asked by brides and grooms if black or ivory tuxedo pants should be worn.  We can honestly say that after renting and selling thousands of tuxedos and suits every year for many years, the resounding choice with this ivory tuxedo tax is to wear black tuxedo pants.  Ike Behar makes a beautiful and high quality microfiber blend pair of black tuxedo pants that have a classy quarter inch satin stripe running down the side of each pant leg.  The pants are soft, breathable and very comfortable. This writer, the co-founder and co-owner of Darianna® Bridal & Tuxedo wears these black Ike Behar tuxedo pants frequently when attending formal events because of their perfect fit and comfort.

The pants also come in a skinny fit version for the more modern guy who wants a super streamlined look or even maybe wants to show some ankle while wearing black patent leather loafers.

Now let’s talk about ivory pants.  Are ivory pants appropriate with this tuxedo jacket?  You can certainly wear the matching ivory trim fit tuxedo pants with this tuxedo jacket.  As mentioned previously, we do not frequently see the ivory pants worn with the ivory jacket and black shawl lapel.  Why?  Because most brides and grooms feel that it is too much ivory and the full ivory look can sometimes seem like it is clashing with the black shaw lapel.  However, in the last few years, we have seen a handful of grooms looking for more ivory than black and choosing the ivory pants.  More commonly, we see the groom choosing our full ivory Ike Behar jacket, called Harrison.  In this case, there is a full ivory jacket, thus no contrasting ivory and black colors on the jacket and pants.

Shoes

When wearing the Dawson jacket and black tuxedo pants, we feel that black patent leather shoes look best, either lace-up or slip ons.

If wearing the Dawson with ivory pants, in theory, you can wear either black shoes to match the jacket’s lapel or ivory shoes to have no color transition between the pants and the shoes.  However, we believe that ivory or white shoes will give a streamlined look by having the pants matching more closely to the shoe color.

In the case that you prefer to wear our other Ike Behar full ivory jacket with ivory pants, you should really only consider ivory or white shoes.

Should I Wear a Vest?

Should you wear a vest with this Ivory tuxedo?  That’s a good question.  Initially, when we were dressing grooms and gala attendees in this tuxedo, many were choosing a black vest.  Darianna® Bridal & Tuxedo has offered this tuxedo for rent for about 7 years.  After seeing hundreds of people dressed in this tuxedo, we now believe no vest is a cleaner and classier look with this jacket.

What do you think of this tuxedo?  Would you wear it?
