About Downingtown

Originally known as “Milltown” because of the preponderance of mills located along the East Branch Brandywine Creek, Downingtown sits 33 miles west of Philadelphia along the Lincoln Highway. Downingtown is home to just under 8,000 people. The Mid-Century schlock-horror movie “The Blob” was filmed in and around Downingtown’s downtown area. Downingtown boasts a number of historic structures, and in fact the entire East Lancaster Avenue Historic District – home to numerous Georgian, Federal and Victorian style homes – is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
