The designer makes a similar tuxedo called Sebastian so there is ample opportunity to mix and match the attire between the groom and groomsmen.  We’ll get into that a little bit later on in the blog.

Navy Tuxedo | Blake from Ike Behar

The Sebastian is a full navy tuxedo with the same color and fine fabric of the Blake.  The differences are that Blake has a black satin peak lapel, black satin buttons and black satin lining on the pockets and Sebastian has a navy satin notch lapel, and navy satin buttons.

There is a lot to love about Blake. The ultra luxurious 120s wool blend fabric is one of the most comfortable available.  It is light, soft and a pleasure to wear. Even customers who are not used to wearing suits and tuxedos tell us how pleasant it is to wear this tuxedo. The matching navy pants and vest are excellent to complete a very formal look. 

Because the tuxedo has a black peak lapel, black satin buttons and black satin pocket lining, we do recommend that customers wear black shoes with the tuxedo.  In the case of a full navy tuxedo, like the Sebastian, customers often choose brown shoes.

Navy Tuxedo | Best Accessories

Often times, customers ask us if it strange to wear a tuxedo with two tones (navy tuxedo with black accents) for a formal event. This question is obviously asked before they see Blake in person. We feel that the dark navy fabric that most of the jacket is made from blends nicely with the black lapel, buttons and pockets. 

There isn’t a lot of contrast between the black and blue since it is a beautiful, dark midnight navy.

On occasion, we have the fashion forward groom who prefers to wear black pants with the navy jacket.  Of course, this is certainly a good choice as well because the black lapel ties nicely into the black pants and black shoes.

In terms of putting together a look for a wedding party, we often try to recommend ways to distinguish the grooms from his groomsmen. After all, he is the groom and he should look at least slightly different on his wedding day. So, what we recommend and often see in wedding photos is a groom wearing the Blake with its black peak lapel and the groomsmen wearing the full navy tuxedo. Overall, this provides a slight variation in attire between the groom and groomsmen but not so drastic to look like they are in two different weddings.

However, some of our customers feel that a burgundy jacket, burgundy pants and burgundy vest are just too much burgundy!  Even with the breakup of the look with the black satin lapel and buttons.

Tuxedo Accessories

The beauty of this tuxedo style is the various matching accessories that are made by the designer.  You can choose a match V-shaped vest or a more old-fashioned scoop vest.  While most choose the more modern V-shaped vest, there are times our customers want to stand out and show a look from a throw-back era and choose the scoop vest.  The scoop vest exposes more buttons on the front of the shirt and is rounded at the bottom of the front of the vest.

Tuxedo Fit Options

Ike Behar also offers matching slim fit pants or skinny fit pants with this tuxedo.  If you are looking to go with an ultra-modern look, then we often recommend the skinny fit version of the pants.  If you want a more traditional look, choose slim fit pants. 

Both pants have a quarter inch of satin running down the side of the pants; truly a classy and formal look.  The skinny fit pants are much more tapered around the ankle and often fit closer to the contour of the legs and thighs.  Customers often wear a shorter version of the skinny-fit pants to show off some angle or socks.

All of the various options, vest and pants, are made of the same exact fabric as the jacket and will blend perfectly.

Notch lapel tuxedo jackets are by far our most common tuxedo rentals.  The full satin lapel, buttons and double besom pockets add to the sophistication of this fine tuxedo.  With a matching contemporary vest and flat front pants, Firenza is the perfect tuxedo for a father of the bride or groom or to attend a gala.  Why do we say that?  Because the relaxed fit provides some “give” in the fabric allowing for extra movement.  You also do not feel restricted in this tuxedo as you would in a trim fit or skinny fit tuxedo.

By the looks of the photo, you would not believe Firenza is a relaxed fit tuxedo.  The styling is still slimming and the fit looks custom.  This tuxedo is available from size 3 boys all the way up to a 66R. 

Tuxedo Sizing and Fits

While some of our other tuxedo and suit options go up to size 80, we find that most if not all tuxedo and suit rentals are below a size 66.  Why not put the ring bearer in a more relaxed fit tuxedo?  He would be more comfortable!  Let’s face it, most adults who don’t wear suits and tuxedos on a regular basis are often uncomfortable in restrictive clothes.  A ring bearer would be no exception.

Given that we are starting to see more relaxed fit suits and tuxedos being designed in Europe, we feel that in the next couple of years, we may see more offerings of relaxed fit tuxedos.  We already offer two other relaxed fit tuxedos: our Romeo from Ike Behar black double-breasted tuxedo and our Easton navy double-breasted tuxedo. The idea for these tuxedos came out of the trend seen in Europe for more relaxed fit clothes.

We love the Emmitt black suit because it has matching trim fit jacket, pants and vest.  While not everyone goes for the vest, it’s always an option for someone who wants to look more formal.  Most renters, from our experience, do not rent the vest when attending a funeral or as a guest to a wedding.  However, on occasion, customers will rent the vest if they are attending a more formal wedding or the funeral of a very close friend or a family member.

Having said that, Ike Behar created Romeo, a beautiful double-breasted version of his black peak lapel tuxedo (link that blog).  This tuxedo offers the same ultra luxury 130s fabric for the double-breasted jacket, slim fit pants, skinny fit pants, V-shaped vest or scoop vest.

This is a perfect tuxedo for a larger man looking to hide some girth.  The tuxedo, if properly fitting, also works well with a slim person.  Traditionally, double breasted jackets do a wonderful job of making someone look slimmer and more streamlined. 

We have seen this many times over when a customer tries on a double-breasted jacket in our store.  When the customer looks in the mirror and sees how fit the jacket makes him look, he usually immediately rents one of our double-breasted tuxedo jackets.

We recommend patent leather shoes with Romeo because they are more formal and classic.

Double-Breasted Tuxedos

While the number of people renting double-breasted tuxedos is currently not as high as our standard tuxedo jackets, we are seeing an increase in rental rates as the year progresses.  This is certainly a style that we see more in the autumn and winter months because of the extra fabric involved with this type of jacket.  We are also seeing more fashion forward or trendy-conscious customers are gravitating to double-breasted styles.

The Jackson

Tuxedo Accessories

Most of our customers wear a vest or black suspenders, however we like to pair Jackson with a traditional vest for a more formal, contemporary look.

As for pants, Ike Behar offers two slightly different pairs of pants with this tux: slim fit pants with a quarter inch of black satin going down each side of the outside of the legs.  The pants are also offered in a skinny fit version.  While the slim fit style is perfectly modern and adequate for most grooms, some like a more tapered look and choose the skinny version of these pants.  Both pants are made with the same luxurious fabric matching both the exact color and texture of the jacket and available vests.

With the classic Jackson tuxedo, we prefer shiny (patent leather) shoes. 

Of course, patent leather shoes provide a more formal look but some of our customers prefer matte finish, non-shiny shoes.  Matte finish shoes are also acceptable to wear with tuxedos.
