Our Ike Behar Olive green suit “Dean” continues to be a popular choice for late summer and fall weddings.  Many couples do not need to see anything else for their wedding party, they are sold on this sharp olive color.  

Olive Green Suit Details

This Ike Behar suit is made with a very comfortable 100% worsted wool.  You will be surprised by how comfortable the fabric is.  

The suit also features a self-notch lapel top color and as with all Ike Behar suits and tuxedos, it is trim fit.  The two-button front, side vented jacket has double besom pockets and classy bone buttons. The olive jacket comes with matching slim fit pants and vest.

We also have a hunter green Ike Behar suit and brides and grooms chose that suit for their autumn and winter weddings.  What we noticed with both our olive and hunter green suits is some wedding parties chose black shirts for contrast.  

Alternatively, you could wear a white microfiber shirt with the olive suit but we think one of our subtle ivory microfiber shirts is an excellent choice.

When wearing an ivory or white shirt with this olive green suit, brown shoes are the perfect accompaniment.  However, if you are choosing a black shirt or black accessories, our matte black shoes would be a better fit with that look.

We especially like the comfortable fabric of this beautiful suit.  As with all Mark of Distinction suits, the jacket is trim fit, contains a self notch lapel and a two button front. The flap pockets, side vent style, and bone buttons add a touch of class to this already exquisite suit.

As is the case with most of our large inventory of suit rentals and purchases, this suit offers matching flat front pants and a vest using the same fine stretch wool material. The trim fit pants have an adjustable waistband and belt loops.  

Don’t be fooled by the wool fabric it is made of. This wool is ultra soft and comfortable and the Dawson can be easily accessorized for a number of fabulous styles from business casual to ultra-formal!

What We Love About The Black Suit Dawson

Despite being trim fit attire, this black dress suit has many built in ways of making it comfortable when wearing it.  The high-end, soft wool, amazing stretch fabric that offers flexibility for great range of movement, and the adjustable waist all contribute to the pleasure and comfort of wearing this suit.

Vest or No Vest

Should you wear a vest with this suit?  How formal is the event that you are attending? 

If the event is a formal special occasion, is being held at a formal location, and/or you want to dress to impress, we definitely recommend wearing the vest, as 3-piece suits would be appropriate for this type of affair.

You can also try matching with different accessories like a black or white shirt, different color or patterned long or bow ties, fancy cuff links, and patent leather shoes, to customize the look to the occasion.

On the other hand, if the venue is not that formal or if you are not interested in looking more formal than others, we suggest not wearing the vest.

A way to look more formal without the vest is to wear a white button down shirt and a coordinating tie and pocket square. If it’s more of a business-casual affair but you still want to look dressed up, we suggest the suit jacket, matching pants, a white button down shirt with the top one or two buttons unbuttoned and a nice pair of matte finished black shoes. With this particular style, you will be both comfortable but still look on-trend.

As the co-owner of a successful bridal & tuxedo store, I know a thing or two about dressing grooms and their wedding party. We dress thousands of grooms, groomsmen, fathers, ring bears and prom-goers every year.  Some are for formal weddings, others are for casual weddings. This Groom’s Guide to choosing your wedding attire gives you the four main decisions to make before setting out on your formal wear journey. 

The most important thing is that you feel comfortable with your wedding day attire and your wedding guest attire.  The good news is that it is much simpler than you think.

Read on, we’ve made it easy to say yes to the groom’s attire!

Many people do not wear suits and tuxedos on a regular basis so putting together your look can be a daunting task if you are not used to it.  Fortunately, we have a simple process to make this an easy and understandable process.

While we could go into the many pieces of a suit or tuxedo and accompanying accessories (we count upwards of 10) we will stick with the 4 main decisions you need to make to start. They are: 

• Color
• Suit or Tuxedo
• Lapel Style
• Shoes

Groom’s Guide: Color

The first decision you need to make is the color of your suit or tuxedo.

We offer over 70 different styles of tuxedos and suits and the colors can vary drastically.  Of course there is always a classic black suit or tuxedo, but why stop there?  

Today you will see many different colors: blue tuxedo, many different shades of blues and grays, tan and brown, hunter and olive green, eggplant, cranberry, mulberry.  In fact, as I write this, I realized there are so many that there are too many to list! Suffice it to say, we can match any wedding color palette.

Our best advice about color is that if you do not have one already in mind, it is a very good idea to look at the different color options in person. Starting your search with Pinterest and Instagram are great ideas as these platforms will help you build your theme and find the best choices for the groom and the groomsmen attire. Photos, however, do not show the true color of the fabrics, nor can you tell the quality. Our professional opinion is you must go see them in person.

NOTE: The formality of your wedding and season will play a part in the color choices, too. For instance: summer weddings or warm weather weddings with a casual dress code lean toward light fabrics in tans, light blues and light grays; a semi-formal wedding in autumn could be a dark suit in hunter green or navy; formal events require an appropriate, classic look. Consider the type of wedding you are having when choosing the color.

When we first meet a bride and groom to discuss their vision, some even change their color choice once they start seeing all of the options!

Groom’s Guide: Suit or Tuxedo

The next decision to be made is whether you should wear a suit or tuxedo.  

The first step is to know the difference between a suit and tuxedo.  The short and simple answer is:

• • A suit has no satin on it and plastic buttons

• • A tuxedo often has satin lapels, satin lining the pockets, and satin buttons

There are a few exceptions where a tuxedo will not have any satin on it, but for the most part a tuxedo has satin, a suit does not.  Read our blog on the difference between a tuxedo and suit.

Many of the higher end, three-piece suit options have equally beautiful fabric and design so it’s not always a given that today’s modern groom must wear a tuxedo. One of these suits may be perfectly acceptable.

Some of the more budget-friendly suits will not have fabric as luxurious and comfortable as a tuxedo so in those cases, you will see and feel a difference in fabric.  

NOTE: If you are getting married at a very elegant venue, we suggest wearing a tuxedo to match the formality of the location (and the bride’s dress). If the wedding theme is a black-tie wedding, you must wear a classic black tuxedo. Otherwise, your personal style and preference can dictate and therefore if you do not like tuxedos, choose a nice wedding suit.

Groom’s Guide: Lapel

Suits and tuxedos have three types of lapels: notch, peak and shawl. 

 

 

 

 

Most brides and grooms can quickly decide on which lapel they prefer most.  Once customers see the three types of lapels in photos or in person, 80% of brides and grooms usually have one absolute favorite lapel, a second one they don’t mind, and a third they don’t like at all!  That’s been our experience when working with brides and grooms and it easily narrows down the choices.

A notch lapel has a “notch-like” cut out on the lapel and is the most common look for a business suit.  This is the most common and contemporary lapel brides and grooms tend to choose.

A peak lapel has a point to it (think peak of a mountain) and points straight up on each side of the jacket.  While this lapel is not as common as the notch lapel, we have been seeing it become more popular in the past three years.

A shawl lapel has rounded edges and in our experience is the least common for a wedding.  The look, while a little more old fashioned, is quite sophisticated.  About 5% of our grooms and fathers choose a shawl lapel tuxedo.  We think it’s a fine choice but after seeing this lapel, we’ll let you decide if it’s the right one for you. One of our more popular shawl lapel tuxedos has been our Brunomagli charcoal gray tuxedo with black shawl lapel.

Not to worry about making a lapel decision.  We find that brides and grooms easily know which one they like best.

Now that you’ve chosen the color, suit/tuxedo, and the lapel, the next decision is shoes.

Grooms Guide: Shoes

Depending on which color suit or tuxedo you chose and your preference for shoes, there are a lot of choices to be had for shoes.

Currently, Darianna® Bridal & Tuxedo offers seven different pairs of shoes. They range from black matte, black patent leather, black and white wingtip, and two different shades of brown.

 

For several years, many grooms have been choosing brown shoes when wearing a gray, tan, and blue suit and tuxedo. This is a popular choice and creates wonderful wedding photos. Some grooms choose black shoes when wearing gray tuxedos and suits. Any suits or tuxedos that are gray with black lapels, we highly recommend wearing black shoes.

 

SHIRTS / ACCESSORIES : 

black tie / classic tuxedo – white dress shirt, white pocket square, black bow tie give a pop of color and is an easy way perfect look.

Patent leather shoes are high gloss, shiny like a mirror; matte finish shoes have no gloss. The decision between shiny and non-glossy is very easy: personal preference. 

The other thing to consider is that patent leather shoes look more formal.  Therefore, if you are going for a more formal look, the best option is the black patent leather shoes.  It is more common to wear patent leather shoes with a tuxedo and matte finish shoes with a suit.  It is perfectly acceptable to wear matte shoes with a tuxedo if you do not like shiny shoes however, we don’t often see patent leather shoes being worn with a suit.

Now that you have the overall look of groom’s outfit chosen, you have just a few other things to consider: shirt style, long or bow tie, vest, cuff links and studs, and pocket squares.  These remaining items are not as complicated to decide on.

When to Wear A Brown Suit

This chocolate brown suit will most likely be more popular in the colder months because of how dark it is.

Interestingly, the Archer suit is a lighter brown than Massamo, and has been selected by our wedding parties during more than just the Autumn and Winter months. Archer seems to work all year round.

This suit is offered for rent and purchase and is newly available as of April 1, 2024. Although it’s too new to tell, our prediction is that this suit will be more common in the autumn and winter months. Over the years, we have found that our Ike Behar Archer tan suit and Allure men Sandstone tuxedo have been more popular during late spring to about September.

Personal Thoughts

As the co-founder and co-owner of Darianna® Bridal & Tuxedo, I am personally considering buying the Brunomagli Massamo suit because of how beautiful the fabric and color is. I will keep you posted on my personal use of this suit!

It’s been about 9 years since we have offered a chocolate brown suit and I like this one better than the one we had for rent years ago. I definitely appreciate the Italian design and fit.

How Are Customers Wearing A Cranberry Suit?

This suit is available for rent and purchase.  The majority of our customers are renting this suit, rather than purchasing it.  When this suit became available last year, most customers were wearing it with a white dress shirt and brown shoes.  We liked the look a lot.

However, beginning in late fall and this year, we have been seeing more and more customers wearing this suit with our microfiber black shirt and black matte shoes. At first, we were not sure about this look, but we are now very sure about it!  The contrasting black shirt and black shoes look amazing against the cranberry suit. It’s modern, clean and fashion forward.

When Are Customers Wearing The Bruno?

The majority of our customers are wearing this suit in autumn and winter.  However there have been a few cases where the customers have like the color so much, they have worn it in the Spring and Summer.  We personally think the color is most appropriate in late Fall and Winter, but we are not totally against wearing it other times of year.

Personal Insights On the French Blue Suit

OK, I am going to interject some opinion here. As co-founder of Dariana® Bridal & Tuxedo, I am fortunate enough to be able to own a rent any of the 70 or so suits and tuxedos that we carry. I personally own the suit because the color is quite striking and beautiful. I often refer to it as “bright dark blue”.

Last night in our store, I saw a groom trying on the suit from a distance and I was again stunned by the dramatic and beautiful color that the suit has. I walked up to the groom who was working with one of our staff members and I told him that he looked amazing in the suit. At that moment, we both realized I was wearing the same one that day.

I have more suits than I can wear in a week, but somehow I manage to wear this one every week. I am just drawn to the color and the look. Once you see it in person, you may be drawn onto it as well.

The peak lapel jacket is side vented, has a two button front and double besom pockets. Once again, Brunomagli uses a very unique fabric weave that creates a handsome texture and with the 100% worsted wool is wonderfully comfortable.

The trim fit jacket pairs nicely with the matching eggplant flat front pants with adjustable waistband and belt loops. This suit can also be worn with the matching eggplant vest for a more formal, 3-piece suit look.

How We Like to Wear The Eggplant Lorenzo Suit

We prefer to wear this suit with a white microfiber shirt, patterned long tie and pocket square. The writer of this blog, co-founder and co-owner of Darianna® Bridal & Tuxedo is going to try this suit with our chocolate brown Toscano shoes. Brown shoes would also be a good choice with this color suit.

Coincidentally, we asked our tuxedo department manager which shoes he would wear with the eggplant colored suit and he prefers the our Monaco brown sugar loaf shoe. I like it too, now that he mentions them!

Since this is a new suit only being offered as of April 1, 2024, we are looking forward to seeing how our grooms, groomsmen, prom-goers and gala attendees create their own unique looks!
