About Kennett Square

A borough in southern Chester County, Kennett Square has a reputation as the Mushroom Capital of the World, due to the mushroom farming that takes place throughout the region. Over 1 million pounds of mushrooms are produced each week, and the delicious fungi are celebrated during the annual Mushroom Festival in the center of town. The town's founder is credited with creating this mushroom industry. After the town's founding, Kennett Square became an important stop along the Underground Railroad. Though the town is relatively small, it has a population of 6,167 as of 2015, and had a median household income of $46,523 as of the 2010 census. A number of prominent businesses, restaurants, corporations and other organizations are based in Kennett Square, making it a terrific place to settle down and raise a family.
